Volunteering for Garden & Landscape Expo

Garden & Landscape Expo is a community educational event and fundraiser hosted by PBS Wisconsin and the UW-Madison - Extension Horticulture Program. This three-day event celebrates the latest trends in gardening and landscaping with more than one hundred free educational seminars and demonstrations.

Benefits of Volunteering

Registered volunteers will receive a complimentary one-day admission ticket and parking pass (valid on the date of your job assignment). There will be plenty of time before of after your shift to take in a host of free educational offerings and check out the latest products and services in the exhibitor mall! 

Garden & Landscape Expo Jobs

Volunteer support is vital to bringing this important educational event to the community. How can you help? Put your talents to work by selling tickets, greeting visitors, assisting presenters, or serving as an information guide. 

Seated Jobs

Exhibitor Check-In: Greet exhibitors, hand out ingress packets and direct them to their assigned booth location on the exhibition hall floor.

Great Wisconsin Quilt Show Booth: At Garden and Landscape Expo promote The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show, answer general questions about the show, hand out literature and encourage visitors to participate in the prize drawing.

Handstamper: Provide hand stamps to visitors that would like to re-enter the show and answer general event questions.

Raffle Sales & Info Desk: Give directions and answer questions about Garden and Landscape Expo using information sheets we provide. Sell raffle tickets.

Volunteer Check-In: Greet volunteers, hand them their name badges and direct them to training and orientation in the volunteer lounge.

Non Seated Jobs

The jobs listed below involve standing or walking.

Demo Assistant: Help set up stage presentations, monitor seating, distribute handouts, check sound levels, take attendance and assist with clean up as needed.

Exhibitor Entrance Attendant: Monitor traffic flow near the back doors of the Exhibition Hall. Ensure that visitors have valid exhibitor or volunteer passes, answer basic show questions and provide directions to the locations of events and show facilities.

Expo Photo Wall: Welcome attendees and encourage them to take a photo with their smartphone in front of the photo wall. Two volunteers work together at the photo wall.

Floater: Volunteers will be given a job assignment to fill openings due to cancellations, unfilled positions and other staffing needs.

Greeter: Welcome visitors to Garden and Landscape Expo. Direct attendees to entry gates, ticket booths, classrooms, demos and exhibitor booths. Hand out programs and answer basic questions about the show.

Greeter at PBS KIDS Backyard: Welcome visitors to the kid-friendly area of Garden & Landscape Expo. Hand out PBS KIDS Passport and answer basic questions about the show.

Photo Exhibit Attendant: Welcome visitors to the photo exhibits, monitor photographs that are on display and answer general event questions.

Photo Exhibit Setup & Takedown: Assist in setting up the photo competition exhibits. For this year's show, art exhibits include framed photographs.

Presenter Lounge Attendant: Warmly welcome presenters to Garden Expo in upstairs lounge (board room). Answer basic questions about the show, offer presenters a place to store their items, offer beverages to presenters and keep lounge area tidy.

Seminar Assistant: Welcome guests, adjust lighting levels, keep presenters on schedule, distribute handouts and evaluation forms, make announcements, take attendance, manage traffic flow and assist where needed.

Ticket Sales: Greet attendees and sell tickets in the front or back lobby of the Exhibition Hall. Answer basic questions and direct visitors to seminars, exhibitor booths, food stations and Alliant Energy Center amenities.

Usher: Ensure that all Garden & Landscape Expo guests entering the show have a valid e-ticket or physical ticket. They scan electronic tickets using a handheld scanner. Ushers may accept physical tickets as well. They are stationed at the front and back entrances to the show.

Volunteer Lounge Setup: Assist the Volunteer Manager in setting up the volunteer check-in/lounge area on the mezzanine of Alliant Energy Center.
