I’ve been digging up sections of lawn for over 20 years. I discovered the ecological value of natives maybe 10 years ago so that’s become my focus. Once established, natives require less maintenance, but the challenge is to find plants that play well together—meaning they’ll share the available root space/nutrients and not overwhelm their neighbors.
