Plant what you love. If it doesn’t work the first time, try twice more.
This amaryllis bloomed on Christmas with four flowers and again on Valentine’s Day. I dig a hole in the dirt and plant the pot/bulb in my garden. When it gets too cold outside, I dig out the pot and bring it inside and treat it like a houseplant.
All problems can be solved by digging in the dirt!
The end of a day.
5” holes filled with soil and leaves onto two layers of block made a great container for common milkweed and other plants that spread fast. Leaf mulch helped plants winter well. Wood with glass or stapled heavy plastic over gardens with spaces for air/water acts as cold frame/green house.
Even an apartment balcony has room to bloom.
The ephemeral beauty of the Cherry Blossom always enchants me.
This year-old Cyclomen is blooming today! It was put out in the garden for the summer, then re-potted and brought inside early fall. Evidently it is happy by the west window! Makes me happy in the dead of winter!
Plant beautiful flowers for pollinators, and enjoy our tiny winged visitors to the garden. Butterflies, bumblebees and hummingbird moths are some of my favorites! ♡
