Garden happy
A cheerful burst of color helps ease into autumn!
Patience and perseverance.
Every garden needs good luck, and so the old stories say, a toad helps our gardens grow. Mine decided to take a swim with red bud petals! Spring plays in multiple acts—common lilacs, wild flowers and hazelnuts. Seedlings get planted and I just hope they grow. Plant one and leave the others for our neighbors.
Grow what you love and try new plants often. I grew up as a farm girl, moved to the suburbs and then to condo life. I’ve gotten pretty good veggies from my patio pots. Gardening is sometimes on a large scale and sometimes on a small scale but always a part of me.
My best tip is to use good soil and fertilize. When the plants are strong and hardy the only pests that mess with my garden are the rabbits, which I do use a repellent for, especially in early spring when my bulbs come up!
Use natives when you can, but go ahead and experiment with tropicals and annuals. Make spaces for wildlife, including pets, and don’t forget a place to sit.
Weeds once, mulch and enjoy
